This OR lure is specially designed for effective monitoring and management of Oryctes rhinoceros (Rhinoceros Beetle), a major pest in coconut and arecanut plantations. The lure releases species-specific attractants that draw adult beetles into traps, helping in early detection and population control. The larvae are yellowish-white and can grow up to 60–100 mm in length, while the adults are stout, shiny dark brown to black beetles with a prominent horn on the head. Males typically have a longer horn than females. The pest breeds in decaying organic matter and completes its life cycle over several weeks, with adults capable of living up to nine months and laying a large number of eggs. Damage is caused when adult beetles bore into the crown of the palm, feeding on tissue juices and creating characteristic V-shaped cuts in emerging fronds. Severe infestations may also damage inflorescences, leading to yield reduction. The use of pheromone lures in bucket traps provides an eco-friendly and efficient solution for pest monitoring and control as part of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
